The master of leopard print, Roberto
Cavalli has been up to his cat antics again.
The Italian powerhouse of a designer, who
has been known for speaking his mind, and previously lambasting American
designers for creating clothing that he described as "terrible." Criticising
the Vogue editor Anna Wintour for her journalism choices. And who has mauled
the personal style, of the designer for Fendi and Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld as
being ridiculous - "Just because you are an artist you don't have to dress
like that, Karl Lagerfeld he looks ridiculous."
Has come out to criticise the heralded American
designer Michael Kors.
In an interview, he told style.com
"He's one
of the biggest copy designers in the world, I just want to tell him to stop
copying me! Stop! All the time I write those comments on Instagram. He copies
everybody!"
Cavalli goes on to explain that it’s not
just Kors who copies him:
"Before I
[launched] Just Cavalli, I started to see how many people around me were
copying me," he expains. "There was Cavalli style all over, and I
said, 'Why am I giving so many opportunities to other people? Maybe I should
just start to copy myself.' So I started Just Cavalli to copy myself."
To the Goss-IPgirl those seem like fighting
words for copyright protection! But as it goes for copying, it is seems true
that everyone is copying everyone in the world of fashion, which in fact is part
of the nature of an industry, that thrives on recycling, and taking inspiration
from a whole history of designs. The Goss-IPgirl has
yet to find any evidence of Kors directly copying Cavalli’s signature style. No
leopard print numbers copied yet. What do you think of Cavalli’s bold yet opposing
statement? And could this be yet another plea for copyright protection for fashion designs?
